MISSION DATE: FEBRUARY 4, 1944 |
MISSION NBR. 22 TARGET: Pontassieve, Italy - Marshalling Yard I. CHRONOLOGY Thirty-nine B-24's took off at 0826 hours to bomb submarine pens and shipping in the Harbor of Toulon. Five returned early. Thirty-four returned at 1400 hours without reaching the target or without jettisoning any bombs. The formation was led by the 376th Bomb Group and when they were turned back by weather, all other groups followed suit. II. ROUTE AND ASSAULT Made rendezvous with the 376th, 98th and 449th Bomb Groups at Martina France, proceeded on course to Capri to Arezzano then return to base. III. RESULTS The target was not reached due to weather. IV. ENEMY RESISTANCE A. Fighters: None observed or encountered. B. Flak: Heavy, slight, inaccurate flak was encountered. V. OBSERVATIONS There were no observations due to cloud cover. VI. CASUALTIES None. |
