TARGET: Vipiteno, Italy - Railroad Bridge

I. CHRONOLOGY
Thirty-two B-24 type aircraft took off at 1015-1032 hours to bomb the railroad bridge at Vipiteno, Italy. No aircraft reached the target due to adverse weather. Thirty-one aircraft returned 75 tons of 1000 lb RDX bomb to base. Three aircraft jettisoned partial loads totaling 1.5 tons in the Adriatic due to engine failure and difficulty in maintaining formation position. Bomb disposition of one aircraft at friendly field not know but it is assumed it jettisoned 2.5 tons. Thirty-one aircraft returned to base at 1602 hours. None lost. None missing. One aircraft still at friendly field.

II. ROUTE AND ASSAULT
Rendezvous and route were flown as briefed to the turn point at 45.00N-13.20E. The target area was not reached due to weather. The escort had not yet made rendezvous at 1420 hours the turn back time. Target weather was reported by the Wing lead to be 10/10 cumulus up to 27,000 feet.
