I just saw where Neil Raiford's book, Shadow has won an historicl peace award in North Carolina. Great work Neil! Now let the smart boys get the wheels turning to make this book into a great movie. My Great Uncle was Lt. John R. Downey (02001851), he was the Co-pilot on a B-24 s/n 44-10538 that went mia March 09, 1945 during a combat mission to Maribor, Yugoslavia from Italy. I am attempting to find out if his plane had a name and/or any nose art. His crew that day were:Lt. Roger C. Saurer, Lt. Laurin S. Knight, S/Sgt. Edward Yack, Sgt. John P. McDonough, Sgt. Francis C. McNeal, Sgt. Charles J. Craft, S/Sgt. Edward W. Smith, and Sgt. Gino Presciutti. I would appreciate any info. Thanks.

need to add a few things about my grandfather --- Harold D Bosserman (Staff Sergeant 13121503). He was a ball turret gunner in the 722nd Bomb Squadon of the 450th Bomb group (15th Air Force). His crew flew over 50 missions. His plane was shot down on April 29, 1944. The navigator, Frank Ryan, landed in the water and drowned. Tommy Ryan, the tail gunner, and Edwin Vrla never made it out of the plane. My grandfather named his oldest daughter, Vrla Ryan Bosserman after them (my mother). I named my daughter Ryan as well. The newspaper in Staunton (The Newsleader) recently did two articles about my grandfather on January 8th, 2006. I can't imagine what my grandfather and others like him went through. Thanks to you all for the freedom you have given me and my family. Thanks again PawPaw!!!

He was a POW in two camps (one was Stalag Luft II). He is still living and lives with his wife (Elizabeth) in Waynesboro, Va. His telephone number is 540-943-0578. looking for relatives or friends of Sgt Eugene J Carney,who died on October 14th 1944. ID 12084348, of 723rd Bomber Group, and is buried in Italy. Eugene was a visitor to my wife's parents in Leamington Spa,England, when stationed at Stoneleigh, Warwickshire. He wrote a number of letters to my wife's parents. Our 2006 reunion will be at the Circus-Circus hotel in Reno Nevada from September 10th to the 16th.We have chosen Monday thru Thursday night as the costs go up to $129/night on weekends.
