S/Sgt. Walter O. Cannon
720th Squadron

Staff Sgt. Walter Cannon of Georgia contacted me a few days after our arrival in Manduria.
I cannot remember whose crew he was on but he was in the 720th Squadron.
His trademark was the way he wore his cap bill pointed up.
He was top turret gunner on his crew and when Ebert flew his first mission with them
Walter got credit for at least one fighter in the ensuing attack on the 450th bomb group which was raiding Ploesti.
The 450th was shot up badly by a nose attack out of the sun which busted up the formation.
It was a wicked mission for Ebert to have to fly as his first mission.

Information supplied by: William Dudley, 720th Squadron
