I ENLISTED IN DECEMBER 1942 AS AN AVIATION CADET.
IN1944 I WAS ASSIGNED AS A FLIGHT ENGINEER AND GUNNER ON A B-24 IN THE 450th BG 723 SQUADRON IN MANDURIA ITALY. MY COMBAT MISSIONS INCLUDED GERMANY,AUSTRIA,YUGOSLAVIA.
ON JANUARY 19th,1945 WE WERE SHOT DOWN OVER BROD,YUGOSLAVIA. THE LEFT WING WAS BLOWN OFF AND WE WENT INTO A FLAT SPIN. NINE CREWMEN WERE KILLED AND TWO BAILED OUT.
I SPENT 21 DAYS IN SOLITARY CONFINMENT IN FRANKFORT (OBEREUSAL). THEN WE MARCHED TO NURNBERG(STALAG 13D) AND THEN TO MOOSBERG(STALAG 7A).
I WAS LIBERATED ON APRIL 29,1945.
