Bombing Commendation

                                                HEADQUARTERS

                        450TH BOMBARDMENT GROUP (H), AAF

                        APO 520                                         US ARMY

                                                                                                                        1 September 1944

SUBJECT: Commendation

TO: Officers and Men of the 450th Bombardment Group (H), AAF.

It is a pleasure as your Group Commander, to be able to report to you that the 450th Bombardment Group led the entire 15th Air Force in Bombing Accuracy for the month of August.

Our Group jumped into the lead position during the second week in August and never relinquished it for the rest of the month. This enviable record was the combined results of all the officers and men in the Group, working as a team, all striving for one common cause…maximum destruction to the enemy!

The credit for this record should not go to the Combat Crews alone. It meant long hours for clerks, mess personnel, armament, ordnance, communications and engineering…it meant practice missions day after day…it meant teamwork to the nth degree under many handicaps but you surmounted every obstacle in a superior manner.

I am proud to have a command composed of officers and men with the spirit you have displayed. If this type is carried on into September, the most crucial month for the "Krauthead" since the war started, it will be a decidedly important factor in shortening the war.

I urge you to exert every effort this month to continue your pace-setting bombing performance of the past month when you chalked up 60.4% which is an all time high for any Heavy Bombardment Group in World War II. Let us strive for two objectives for the month of September; first, to help deal the knockout blow to Adolph, and secondly, to surpass our present bombing record.

                                                                                                            R. R. GIDEON

                                                                                                            Lt. Col., Air Corps,

                                                                                                            Commanding.
